Ballarat Permaculture Guild provides a focus for people in and around Ballarat who are interested in living more sustainably through implementing permaculture design principles and practices in their daily lives. We are a practical group working together to increase our skills and experience. One of our priorities is to create opportunities for other members of the community to learn about permaculture or the practical skills that go with it! If Permaculture is new to you, our Permaculture page outlines some of the strategies Permaculture offers towards building a more sustainable and locally resilient future.
You don't need to know anything about permaculture to join us! We'd love to meet you, come along to Irish Murphy's in Sturt Street in Ballarat CBD. 6pm 4th Thursday night of the month.. Or click on the Education menu to learn about our PDC (Permaculture Design Course).
In the meantime, here is one definition of permaculture:
Permaculture is a means to bringing a true sustainable lifestyle to your home and community. It is an ingenious design system based on working in harmony with nature and it ís an Aussie invention, as well, which has to be a good thing!
Ballarat Permaculture Guild is a local group of Permaculture Melbourne (a not-for-profit incorporated Association), so we are able to benefit from being part of a larger organisation which links together like-minded people across the whole of Victoria. We can 'plug in' to courses and events right across the state.
European research has shown that households growing their own food is the most effective strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Growing your own food is a critical part of increasing household and community resilience in the face of climate change and peak oil. Unfortunately, many people have lost the basic skills and knowledge needed to grow their own food. We can change this!
