Rocket stove barrel oven workshop
Rocket Barrel Oven Workshop – 2 days
Friday Nov 2 2018 & Saturday Nov 3 2018
Workshop leader Joel Meadows has worked as an environmental and Permaculture educator for over 20 years and has a
wealth of practical experience across the field of Appropriate Technology. Our Permaculture Design Course (PDC) students love Joel's sessions on alternative technology in our PDC. He's more than a gadget guy - he understands both the detail of the science, but also the social and economic implications of our energy choices.
In this workshop participants
- learn the principles of clean, efficient ‘rocket’ wood combustion,
- build a simple, durable rocket cooker from house bricks and cob, then
- build a barrel oven from reclaimed 44-gallon drums powered by the rocket.
This is the fastest, cleanest back-yard wood fired pizza going!
On Friday, the workshop starts with some foundational principles but quickly moves to hands-on work as we build a rocket cooker. (Plus there will be demonstrations of a variety of clean burning wood technologies)
Friday night features a pizza cook-up - please BYO ingredients to share when we will use the rocket cooker we built that day to power a portable oven Joel is bringing with him.
On Saturday, we build the permanent barrel oven which will remain on site for use at future workshops and courses at Chestnut Farm, including the BPG PDC in the first half of every year.
Please wear appropriate clothing for wrestling barrels and playing with bricks & cob! Sturdy boots, long sleeves and your own gloves are a good start.
